Google has blocked a Chinese technology business from working with some of its devices after a customer complained that they could see CCTV footage of other people’s houses.

A customer published a series of still images of strangers which they said came from their use of a Xiaomi CCTV camera which connects to the internet.

“When I load the Xiaomi camera in my Google home hub I get stills from other people's homes,” they wrote in post shared on Reddit.

Xiaomi makes smartphones and smart home equipment, such as cameras and smart lights.

The customer published a video which showed that attempting to access a live feed of their Xiaomi camera through their Google Next Hub instead showed somebody else’s home.

Images appeared to show that the Xiaomi camera displayed footage of a baby in a crib and an elderly man asleep in an armchair.

Google has now blocked Xiaomi devices from being able to work with its Nest Hub device and its Assistant software.

A Google spokesman said: “We’re aware of the issue and are in contact with Xiaomi to work on a fix. In the meantime, we’re disabling Xiaomi integrations on our devices.”
